This week's question:

Share your experiences with blogging!
List TWO "Don't" and one "Do" when it comes to blogging and reviewing.

Oh, good question!

  • Don't be afraid to write about anything your heart desires. It is your blog, so if you want to write about the latest cookbook you bought, even if you usually review paranormal, you can. I don't think there's a "recipe" for what you can or can't write on your blog.
  • Don't be dishonest in your reviews. If you didn't like a book, say it, respectfully, but don't write a fake review just for the sake of writing a good review.
  • Do have an open mind. Ever since I started book blogging, I discovered a lot of different genres, a lot of which I didn't expect to enjoy reading.
What about your list?

  1. Great points, I found a couple of genres I thought I wouldn't give the time of day -now I love them lol.
And about the reviews, I totally agree. I try to tactfully include points about the story I didn't like, instead of a full-blown rant about how 'crap' it is lol.

    1. I think the main reason why I love blogging so much. I found new books (and series) that I am now addicted to. Then again, it's a real pain for my wallet, but that's a different story :P

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. The first ones my favorite! Blogging is a great outlet for me, it's something I love putting my time and effort into! With that being said, I think you should always be able to express yourself as much as you want, just as long as your not hurting anybody :) Great answers!

    1. Exactly! I heard a lot of stories where bloggers where being bullied for writing something on their own blogs, either bad reviews or stuff like that.

  4. I have to agree with your "dont be dishonest" in your reviews point. Some people can alter their opinion just because they get a book from an author or publisher. great words!

    1. That always bugged me. If you like a book, say so, if you didn't then say so as well. It's not like you're doing someone a favor if you're lying. Also, just because I didn't like it doesn't mean anyone won't. It just means that I didn't like it.

  5. Great list--and I just thought of something else I should have added to my list.
Be aware of how easy it is to sign up for reviews, especially if you have a netgalley account. It's like friggin Christmass to a book addict like me, lol. I have learned to set a limit to accepting book requests...you can wear yourself down promising to read "everything". I try to stick to just a few genres, which helps put a limit on it.
Great blog and RED is my fave color....it draws you in.

  6. I like your answers. I must admit with "being honest" in my reviews I have luckily not run into any problems with upset authors. Although unlike some reviews it's less of an author/book bashing and more constructive advise. I try to list the reasons why I didn't like the book without being obnoxious about it and I always (no matter what) end the review on a good note.

    1. I haven't either and I hope I never do *crosses fingers* But yes, it's best to say (respectfully) why you didn't like something.

    1. Thank you! Though honesty is a double-edged sword, I'd rather be honest than not be and be caught with the lie *shrug*

  8. Great answers! I love blogging just because you get to meet so many different people who enjoy different genres! I've gotten more into YA since I started blogging but I still tend to stick more closely with paranormal romance and stuff.

    1. Yes! Another one who discovered YA after blogging. I try staying away from that genre, mostly because 1) I do need food to live, not just books unfortunately LOL and 2) because I usually read books more on the steamier side and I thought I wasn't going to like YA. Thank God though I was wrong :P

  9. Great DLS. I agree with your Don'ts. No one should be afraid to post anything especially because it's their blog! Who gives a rats ass if someone doesn't like it. I personally love hearing about something other than books on blogs. It's a great way to get peoples interest as well.

    1. Exactly! It's your blog, why should you be told what to post on it? It's like someone coming into my house and telling me how I should decorate it.
