Obsessed With Covers #44: Onyx & Ivory, Sea Witch

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. Call me shallow but you have to admit that a pretty, shiny cover will catch your eye faster than a dull, boring one. Two, simple rules that I'll follow:

  • 1, 2 or 3 (no more than 3, though) covers per week;
  • books should be new-ish; no more than 2 years old.
Oh, before I share the covers that made me drool or want to stare at them for hours and hours, I have to say something. This is a semi-original idea. Why semi? Because almost every book blogger has something similar. The only thing I came up with was the title. If by any chance there's another blogger with a similar feature with the same title, I assure you I'm not stealing your idea. I'm just THAT bad with titles. Believe me, I'd love to be smarter and have a witty name for this feature, but I don't. So, no copyright infringement/theft/steal or anything of the sort was desired. All I can say is sorry :P

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

This cover is giving me serious Gondor vibes, guys! In case you don't know what I'm talking about (is that even possible though?) Gondor is one of Man's cities in Tolkien's Middle Earth. And in Gondor we have the iconic White Tree, which has a special history for Gondor and Middle Earth in general. And the swords look like the swords of the old kings of Gondor and mankind in general... Okay, nerdiness aside, this cover is fantastic! I do think the tree is important for the story, and the swords represent something. I want to know more, basically!!

Onyx & Ivory - Mindee Arnett

This is one really gorgeous cover! The art is fantastic, and it kind of sets the tone to the entire story to be honest. I expect this book to be really dark. Especially since, judging by the blurb, this is an origin story of Ursula, the wicked witch of the seas in The Little Mermaid. I love water, so any story that is focused on sea creatures will get my attention. I love the fact that this is an origin story of a villain. It's really interesting to see how this is translated in the cover, because you can tell that this isn't an ordinary sea creature. She's not a regular mermaid. You can kind of see that the girl on the cover is long past being human, and I love that. I love the details of the drawing, the bubbles that look like pearls, the many tentacles that seem to envelop the girl and how her hair is also similar to tentacles. I cannot wait to see this book in real life.

What about you guys? Any covers you've seen lately that you've fallen in love with?

  1. Ooh those are some really pretty covers! I think The Bone Witch has one of my favorite covers ever and the sequel (Heart Forger) is going to be really beautiful too! Language of Thorns is another pretty one that comes to mind.
