TV Madness: Sen Çal Kapımı Bölüms 5-8 Review

Genre: Rom - Com | Channel: Fox Türkiye | Director: Ender Mihlar, Yusuf Pirhasan
 Starring: Hande Erçel, Kerem Bürsin

It's been a hot minute since I last reviewed my favorite Dizi and for that I am sorry. It's not that I stopped watching, it's that I've had a few things on my mind and there was never enough time, and then after a few episodes I had to ask myself how the heck can I ever catch up. Today I decided not even to try catching up, so I'm going to review bölüms 5 through 8 all in one post. I promise this won't go on forever though, so don't worry if you think you'll have to read what could be considered a novella. I'll only highlight my favorite scenes from the episodes and general impressions of where the story is headed to. Let's get started, shall we?

This week's episode of Bay Yanlış has got to be the funniest thing I've ever seen on TV. I can't exactly pinpoint what my favorite scene is, because it was all awesome. Also, I'm pretty sure this was the longest episode so far from this series. I also want to mention that I haven't watched the full episode with subs yet, so I won't be going too in depth with some scenes. So let's get started, because there's a lot to talk about.

July is officially the best thing to ever happen to 2020. When I wrote my Bay Yanlış review I knew there was a chance I'd have another TV Madness out this week. I am here to confirm that suspicion. Because I just watched the premiere of Sen Çal Kapımı and I am in love. Yes, in case you're wondering, I'm writing this review right after I finished watching the show. I just cannot wait for tomorrow (which is when you guys will be reading this).

I was fully prepared to watch the show just for Ayşe Üner Kutlu, the writer of the show. Ayşe is actually the original writer of Erkenci Kuş, and her episodes (1 - 17, 39 - 46) are just fantastic. That isn't to say the other episodes aren't good, but Ayşe knows her romance. As an avid romance reader myself, I hold most of the romance shows I watch to a very high standard. Which is why I knew I was going to watch whatever it is that she wrote, and probably even love it. Well... I was right!

TV Madness: Bay Yanlış Bölüm 1 & 2 Review

Genre: Rom - Com | Channel: Fox Türkiye | Director: Deniz Yorulmazer
 Starring: Can YamanÖzge Gürel
Summary (source: IMDB):
Özgür (Can Yaman) is a very wealthy restaurant owner and living a sloppy but happy go lucky life, and does not believe in love. Ezgi (Özge Gürel) is now tired of wrong relationships and is determined to have a proper relationship and get married. Seeing that Ezgi is not successful in the relationship matters, Özgür begins to mentor her about relationships and gives her tactics to get the man she likes.

If you're following me on social media you know I've discovered a new passion: Turkish TV shows, also known as Dizis. It all started because of the quarantine and me discovering the romantic comedy Erkenci Kuş (Early Bird in English). I fell in love with the rom-com genre all over again because of that show, and when I heard that Can Yaman, the actor who played the hero in this show, had a new Dizi coming up this summer I knew I had to watch it. And because I truly adore the show I've decided to share my love for it on my blog. Today I'll be reviewing the first 2 episodes, but starting next week I'll be reviewing one episode per week.

Let's get started, shall we?

TV Madness: Strike Back

Hello lovelies! I've been in a funk ever since I graduated, mostly because I am still waiting to find an internship (apparently those are very difficult to find, even when you don't get payed *shakes fist*), which is why I've been missing. Anyway, I've read only a few comic books in this time and I need to review them soon, but first I have to talk about the awesome new TV show I just discovered, Strike Back. I will ask you to excuse my language in advance, but if you've watched Strike Back, you'll know it's appropriate. Also, in case you're wondering, this show is intended for mature +18 audiences.

How the fuck did I miss this show? Why did I not know about it? First of all, the first season has Richard Armitage in in, whom I love since he was Guy of Gisbourne in Robin Hood. And Andrew Lincoln. And then, for seasons 2 - 5 you have Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton. And then some really awesome guest stars. Allow me to fangirl.

 photo tumblr_m4b7geTGFE1rn1har_zpsa381e49f.gif

Okay, I'm calm now. Somewhat.

Reasons to love the show:
  1. No censorship. This is a huge thing for me, guys! I don't know how normal people speak, but when I'm angry/scared/frustrated/in a bad mood, I curse. A lot. My swearing could probably win me a prize for inventive use of words, except it is "impolite" *rolls eyes*. But I always get frustrated when in some TV shows the most swearing is "son of a bitch". I need a "fuck" every once in a while. And Strike Back delivers, guys! There's inventive swearing and it makes me giddy and happy.
  2. The good guys sometimes lose. You know how frustrating it is to watch a TV show or a movie where everything turns out 99% exactly how it's supposed to, meaning the good guys win with few, even no casualties? Take The Avengers. Coulson died. What happened next? They made a TV show in which Coulson was revived. Not that I don't like Agents of SHIELD, I do, but...you know, I want some realism sometimes. In Strike Back some of the good guys die and the only thing you can do is curse and cry. And I love that. Because in their line of work the good guys can and even will die. So there's the dose of reality that I'm craving.
  3. Good action. I love the action. I want a show where things get blown up, baddies are shot, there's blood everywhere, car chases, motorcycle chases... *le sigh* I think you get the point, right?
  4. Hot actors. Okay so, the show was on Cinemax. So there's sex in it. Lots of it. While some might be bothered by that fact, it didn't bother me. Not because I'm a perv, but because there's really a good reason for the sex. Some called the nudity gratuitous. Maybe it's the psychology degree, maybe because I watch toooons of TV shows. But there's a reason for the sex. And that reason made me love one of the characters more once I found what it was *cough*Damien Scott*cough*. There really is a good reason for it and it gets revealed in one of the seasons why he's a bit reckless.
  5. Great characters. You probably know that in books, TV shows, movies I'm a character lover. I need good, amazing characters or I can't watch/read it. I just can't. If the characters don't call to me, if they don't make me want to root for them and if my only thought when they get hurt is "Oh well, maybe this will wake them up" then I can't continue with the story. So it's always amazing to get to read a book or in this case watch a TV show where I loved all of the characters. The good ones anyway. The villains I hated, but that was their job, to make me hate them. :P
Reasons to not love the show:

I have none, guys. I just love the show. I heard a rumor that there's talks about a movie and I couldn't be more excited.

 photo tumblr_mbwpwj0MbY1rxpz1e_zpsg328r1xs.gif

I need more of this show. I am not ready to admit that there's not going to be a new season (I'm in denial), so I might wait a few days and rewatch it. For science *wide grin*

What about you guys? Any new shows you've watched lately that you think everyone should see right away?

TV Madness: How To Get Away With Murder

I'm always on the hunt for new TV shows to watch. I honestly like watching TV shows more than I do movies. Why, you ask? Well, it's the same thing with book series: I get to spend way more time with the characters and the story. There's much more space for the characters to grow and reveal all their quirks.

I remember last year when the promo for How To Get Away With Murder came out and the first thing that drew my eye was Viola Davis. Let's face it, she's awesome! And there was a scene in the trailer with her presenting what her subject was about and I absolutely loved that scene. So I knew this show was on my "to-watch" list. For some reason though, it has stayed on that list up until about a month ago, when I went on a road trip. I went to my grandmother's for a week and when I turned on the TV, the pilot was on. I have to say, I was hooked from the last scene of that pilot, when they reveal who the dead body was. Holy crap, I did not see that one coming!

What I love most about the show are the numerous twists and turns that I don't see coming most of the time. It's like a roller coaster. I don't understand who killed whom and I'm staying away from spoilers (IT'S SO HARD, GUYS!!). The funny part is that Mom already saw the show and she's gloating, because she knows what happens next and she's always saying things like "Oh, you wait and see next week's episode". And that's it. She then goes to do some other stuff! So unfair!

Anyway, back to the show. I love the writing and the flash-forward scenes are done amazingly well. And Viola Davis is just...there's a scene in one of the episodes where she's in the courtroom and she's interrogating the witness in such an aggressive way that I got goosebumps when I saw it. She should've won the Golden Globes nomination, because she is doing a perfect job.

The nerd in me can't help but do a happy dance that one of the actors from Harry Potter is in this show - Alfred Enoch. It took me a while to recognize him, but when I did I squee-ed like the big nerd that I am. I was so impressed by his accent. And with each scene I wonder if Wes knows more than he's letting on.

So I'm obsessed with this show. And I'm so, so, so happy that it got picked up for another season. I hope it gets to have many more seasons after that, because the show is just great.

TV Madness: Suits

This past few weeks I discovered the awesomeness called Suits. I have no excuse for waiting this long, I know! I'm ashamed of myself *hangs head in shame*.

This show got under my skin fast, from Donna's coolness, to Mike's ability to annoy Harvey faster than blinking, to Louis Litt's love for cats and his funny, sometimes weird way of looking at things. I love the banter, the constant movie quotes, the inside jokes between characters, the suits (let's be honest, most men look good in a suit, but the men on this show look damn hot in them!). I love Mike's story, even though I'm completely confused as to why he didn't try to enroll in a different college (but since I don't know how the educational system works in the US, I'm going to assume it's something related to either that or money). I love the banter between Harvey and Donna and how Donna makes saucy remarks just to get Harvey annoyed. I love how Harvey proves over and over how loyal he is to Mike and how he protects him even if it could cost him not only his career, but his entire life.

It's been a while since I've seen a show about lawyers and didn't immediately think of Ally McBeal. Not once during Suits did I think of the craziness populating that show. It's so refreshing. I love the actors, the dialogue is pure gold and the music fantastic. The suits are, again, amazing. And some of the women's fashion I've seen on this show is so gorgeous and elegant.

The entire show is great. And I don't think there's one thing that I didn't like. However, there's one thing, a huge, huge thing that I love more than anything else and it's this:

Harvey Specter's Vinyl Collection

That's right! Harvey's vinyl collection. Not many people know this about me, but I'll take vinyls over CDs or MP3s any time, any day, for my choice of indoor music player (just like I'd take cassette tapes over CDs and MP3 players in my car, but that's another story). I grew up in the 90s and I remember the years before CDs and MP3 players (at least in my neck of the woods, we were a tad behind with all the technology). And one of my fondest memories growing up was listening to old theater plays (think 40s and 50s) in my bedroom, while playing with dolls or coloring or just being lazy. Or listening to ballet music or old rock records. There's nothing quite like the sound of the vinyl and that noise at the beginning, the surface noise, is glorious and it's like making a promise, a promise of good music.

So when I saw the first two episodes and saw Harvey had TONS of records, I fell in love. It was insta-love, yes, but I couldn't help it. God bless whomever decided to make Harvey Specter a lover of vinyls. Good choice!

Now I'm waiting like crazy for the show to start again, because that last episode was epic! I am biting my nails, waiting to see what Harvey and Mike will do after... well, if you've watched the show, you know what I'm talking about! O____O

TV Madness: Roswell

Over the summer I was in the mood to watch some new TV shows. And because I didn't want to get to a point where I had to wait for new episodes to come out, I decided to watch a show that had already ended. So I talked with my BFF Lucy and she said I needed to watch Roswell.

Now, to me aliens means Star Trek. I loved that show when I was a kid (the New Generation show) so growing up, Roswell didn't attract me that much. After watching it I have to say I was so wrong about not wanting to watch it. It's just perfect!

I loved the idea of the show, I loved the couples, the actors, the little subplots, the whole thing was just amazing. If I had to choose my favorite character, I'd say Maria wins. She can sing, she has great fashion sense and she's funny. And she has a great boyfriend *grins*

Then I saw that the show was based on a book series. From what I understood, the books are slightly different than the show. Still, I'll give them a try once I get some free time on my hands.

There's another show with aliens that's due this autumn, in case you didn't know. It's from the CW and it's called Star-Crossed. I watched the preview on Youtube, but I'm not sure about it. It looks a bit too similar to Roswell in certain aspects.

Anyway, did you watch Roswell? What did you think about it? Also, did you read the books? If yes, did you like them?

Tv Madness: Scandal

I haven't been feeling so well the past few days, what with lack of sleep, stress and weird weather, so I decided to watch something new, something completely out of my comfort zone. I've watched detectives solving the most unusual crimes, I've seen people hunting mythical creatures, doctors racing to save lives, but I've never ever watched a show about politics and media. After a lot of thought and some great reviews from my friends, I decided to watch Scandal. Man! I never expected it to be so good!

I was ready to be wowed, at least in the beginning, but the feeling never went away. I have to admit that my initial... let's call them doubts, were due to the fact that both this show and Grey's Anatomy have the same producer. And let's face it, killing Lexie and McSteamy ruined that show for me *sobs*

But Scandal is a great show. What I like is the twists and turns each episode has. And I love the actors and how well they act. I remember an episode in season 1 where Cyrus is in Oval Office and he has an amazing monologue and he's ranting at Fitz for something the president did (don't want to give it away in case you didn't see that particular episode :-) ). That scene gave me goose bumps, it was so good. I think I watched it about five times. And all actors have these amazing scenes where each of them shine, in a way I've never seen other shows do. You usually have two, three, four main characters that have big scenes and the others have minor scenes or just regular screen time. In Scandal though I felt as if each character has a major role to play in the story.

I'm halfway through season 2 (I'm not rushing to finish it yet... long summer *pouts*) And I can't get enough of it.

Have you watched this show? If yes, what do you think of it?

TV Madness: Elementary

A few weeks ago, my very dear and best friend Lucy told me about this show. She said it was great, that it was a modern twist on Sherlock Holmes and that she loved it and that I should see it. Of course, because I'm a stubborn creature (...err...wait, no, that's wrong. I have a strong will...Yes, that's better) I didn't see it right away. I already am WAY behind with all of my fave TV shows, I really didn't need another new one to see. And I also barely have time to read, so I thought I should maybe wait for summer vacation when maybe, possibly, though not very likely, I'll have more free time.

Anyway, those plans where shot to hell when on one particularly stressful night, when I couldn't sleep at all, I was watching a local TV channel and Elementary was on. Because besides stressed I felt way too tired to even change the channels, I decided to watch it. Oh, what a great night that was.

I loved it. I honestly don't know how to tell you how completely perfect I think that show is. The actors are fantastic, the setting, the cases, the story line, everything. Though I can't say anything about how accurate it is because I haven't read Sherlock Holmes, I believe the writers did an amazing job.

I'm hoping there's a second season coming because honestly there's nothing I hate more than to fall in love with a TV show and with some characters and then find out it's been cancelled. Not that having more seasons softens the blow (*coughs* Leverage *coughs*). But at least I can see how the story and the characters develop.

Have you seen Elementary? If not, do see it. It is worth your time and it's a change from the regular TV drama/crime shows.

TV awesomeness: Grey's Anatomy

Attention: Spoilerish if you haven't watched the first three seasons

So I was bored out of my mind last week. Having to wait for my favorite TV shows to premiere will do that to me. Yes, I have Castle and NCIS and another 2 or 3 TV shows that are airing right now and that I've waited for the entire summer, but I wanted something new. So, just out of curiosity, I decided to watch the first Grey's Anatomy episode. I really wasn't expecting much, just something to distract me for another few days or weeks until the premieres, you know? I wasn't expecting to watch two full seasons in 5 days and now I'm halfway through Season 3. Crazy much?

Anyway, I love the show. How could I not love it? I bawled like a baby when Denny died. Like I was literally crying. That's rare for me. I also laughed my ass off a few times (ok, more than a few times. What can I say, I'm easy to amuse). I love Mark. I heard what happened with his character in the latest season *sniff*sniff* But he's so funny. And cute and sexy. Mostly sexy. I don't like Burke. At all. I was starting to like him, but then something happened. Right after Denny died, Mr. Preston Burke suffered a major personality shift. I hate how he treats Christina. It's like the idiot can't see she's not a touchy-feely, people person.

Oh. I was sad to hear we won't have any more Addison. I know there's the Private Practice show, but I wanted her on this show. I like her with Alex :D And, although she was a bitch at first, I like her.

So, it seems I'm very hooked on this show. Took me a while to decide to watch it, but I'm glad I did. Finally. Now Mom is encouraging me to see Dr. House. To give in or not to give in?
