International Bookworms: Your Country In A Book

hosted by Books & Babble

Hello my fellow bookworms! How are you on this lovely day? Today's topic in the International Bookworms feature hosted by the awesome Ayla is about countries and books. We basically want to talk about some of the books where the action happens in your home country.
There are a few books set Romania, a few of them pretty famous. According to Goodreads, there are a few paranormal romance/urban fantasy books set in Romania, which is kinda cool because it's my favorite genre. Sadly, aside from a few mentions in certain books, such as Kiersten White's And I Darken, I haven't read many books set in my home country.

Even And I Darken has a very small part of it happening in Romania, and that is in the time when it was known as Wallachia, the southern part of modern day Romania. I personally think White did a great job writing this book, by the way.

As for the country I currently reside in, Italy, this is a more famous fictional setting. My first book set in Italy was Anne Rice's The Vampire Armand, which starts off in Venice. I will be honest, I remember very little of the depiction of Venice in that book, as I've read it about 14 years ago, so I can't really say if in any way resembles modern day Venice. What I do remember, however, was that the book caught that certain something that Venice has, which is one of my favorite Italian cities.

If you've read any good books set in either Romania or Italy, feel free to share, since I'm looking at making my TBR a bit bigger.

What about you? What are some of your favorite books set in your country?

  1. I think one of my favorite books set in the Netherlands is On the Edge of Gone. :) But to be fair, it is slim pickings haha. I have to say that I do not recall having read a book set in Romania. So I guess that makes And I Darken just a bit more interesting. :)

  2. I love this tag. I have to visit people in Ayla's link up to find out the books from various countries. It would be really helpful for my 'Flyaway Friday' feature.
