Down The TBR Hole #1: The Scary Adventure Begins

Down The TBR Hole is hosted by Lia @ Lost In A Story that prompts you to clean out your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there. The idea is to go to your Goodreads to-be-read shelf and try to figure out if you really want to read the books you added there. For more information, head to Lia's blog.
So my Goodreads TBR shelf has reached the insanely scary number of 3132. That's a lot of books I'm hoping to read, but let's be honest: some I've added at the height of their popularity, some I've added because I've had them recommended to me so many times it only felt natural to add them, and some... I have no clue why I added. And since I really want to organize my TBR shelf a little bit, as well as my entire Goodreads shelves, I've decided to join Lia's meme and really look at the books I've added on my TBR list.

Every post I'll look at 10-15 books, and I'll look at the blurb, and share why I added the book if I can remember, and if I want to keep it on the list.

  • I added The Notebook because it seemed to be the book and the movie to watch for all romance fans. I watched the movie and while it was good, I wasn't so in love with it as most people seemed to be. That being said, I'm curious about the book. I've previously read a Nicholas Sparks book and loved it, so I'm planning on reading this book. Verdict: It stays
  • I actually can't really remember why I added Mr. Maybe on my TBR pile. Reading the blurb left me with a lot of feelings, most of which not good. Verdict: It goes
  • The Princess Bride is one of those movies everyone loves. I remember watching it as a kid, but I can't say I've ever been insanely interested in watching it again as an adult. As for the book, same thing really. Verdict: It goes
  • The Nanny Diaries is a book I added after seeing the trailer. At the time I added it, I was on a chick-lit binge, and the blurb sounded really interesting. Alas, I can't say I feel the same curiosity I once felt, and I probably won't end up reading it in the near future. Verdict: It goes
  • I added The Lovely Bones on my TBR list after seeing the movie trailer. I was in love with the casting, and I was sure I was going to love the book. The years went by, and this book kept being pushed further back on the pile. Unfortunately, the reviews I've read mention some details I really don't care to read about, so my interest in reading this book has all but vanished. Verdict: It goes

  • Wild, Wicked & Wanton is a book I've always meant to get to, but never really managed to for one reason or another. I am planning on reading it, since I love the author. Verdict: It stays
  • The Clan of the Cave Bear is a book I've been meaning to read for a long, long time. It's actually the first book I've ever heard of that happened in the Ice Age, so I'm really curious about it. Verdict: It stays
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray is a book I got interested in after seeing The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which is a really good movie if you ask me. Now, I can't say I'm super duper interested in reading this book now, but it is a book I own, so I figure I'll at least give it a try. Verdict: It stays
  • Good In Bed is a book I have no memory of, sadly. Reading the blurb hasn't made any bell ring, so unfortunately I don't see myself reading it in the near future. Verdict: It goes
  • The Golden Compass is a book I've had on my list for years, but I can't really say why I added it. I know the blurb, I have heard a few opinions on it, but I can't say I know exactly why I added it. It does sound interesting, so I am thinking I'll eventually get to read it. Verdict: It stays

  • I absolutely loved the movie inspired by the book The Devil Wears Prada and I immediately wanted to read the book. I probably still will read it, but probably not right away. Verdict: It stays
  • Being Familiar with a Witch is a book I added when I was into paranormal romance a lot, when that was basically the only genre I read. It sounded like a fun story, and it still does. I hope I'll manage to squeeze in the time to read it sooner rather than later. Verdict: It stays
  • I remember being super excited to read Angel Time when it was announced. I really enjoyed Anne Rice's books back when I was an angry teenager, in need of some darker literature. However, I can't really say the urge is the same as it once was. Maybe later on I'll want to go back to revisit my choice, but for now I don't see myself reading it. Verdict: It goes
  • Sadly, I have no memory of Haunted Virginia: Legends, Myths, and True Tales. After reading the blurb I can see why I wanted to read it, but I don't think I'll get to it pretty soon. Verdict: It goes
  • I've been meaning to read Men of Danger for years now, I just never really got the time to do it. I am planning on revisiting some of my old favorite authors, since I'm at the stage where I kind of want to reread a lot of "oldies", so I know this one will be one of the books I'll finally be able to get into my "finished" shelf. Verdict: It stays

This first TBR cleaning was very fruitful. In total, out of 15 books I took off 7 of them, getting my TBR down to 3125 books. While that may not seem such a huge change from 3132 books, it is for me LOL. Anyway, I am really enjoying this cleanup, so I definitely will do it again. I may actually use this chance to sort out all the books from my GR shelves, even the read ones, into smaller categories.

What about you? Is your TBR manageable or do you need to have a good look at the books you added so far?

    1. I'm actually very, very excited for these two books. So hopefully I'll be able to bump them a little bit on my TBR. Did you enjoy them?
