Down The TBR Hole #2

Hello dear book lovers and welcome to another post in the Down The TBR Hole feature hosted by the awesome Lia.
I am finding it really inspiring and interesting going through my TBR and sorting it out. Inspiring because it makes me want to cram up as many books in one session as I can. Interesting because I find it fascinating to see what young Ruby Jo added on that list. It's slightly strange to talk about myself in 3rd person *shhhh*

Since I do fear this will take way too long, I've decided to take the number of books I sort through in one session to 20. Hopefully that will make a bigger difference. Okay people, let's start with the first batch of books.

  • I did say I wanted to read some Nicholas Sparks books, but I'm not really sure about Dear John. While I'm all for sad, heartbreaking stories, I can't really say I want to read a story like this, based solely on the blurb. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know anything other than what blurb reveals. Verdict: It goes
  • The Witching Hour is a book I added way, way back. I don't exactly remember a lot about it, except seeing it a lot in bookshops and being quite fascinated with the Romanian cover art at the time. I'm not sure however I really want to read it. Verdict: It goes
  • Pandora is and has been one of my most anticipated Anne Rice reads for a while now. I don't know exactly why the Romanian publisher hasn't yet translated it, but I know I definitely will be reading this one. In case you don't know who Pandora is, she's basically one of the oldest vampires, along with Marcus, and at one point they were lovers and I'm pretty, pretty excited about this book. Verdict: It stays
  • I have the entire Accidental Witch trilogy by Annette Blair in my TBR list, but I can't really say I remember what it was about. The blurb doesn't sound like anything I've ever read, but that doesn't mean I'm less intrigued by this series. Verdict: It stays
  • On The Edge is one of those urban fantasy series I've heard so much about. I'm definitely excite about reading it, but I can't exactly say when I'll be able to. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Verdict: It stays
  • The Silence Of The Lambs has been one of those books that I've been fascinated with since I managed to understand what the story was about - early teens -, but never quite worked up the courage to read. I am hoping I'll change that pretty soon. Verdict: It Stays
  • Another book I've been meaning to read since what seems like forever was Charlene Teglia's Wild, Wild, West. I'm not as excited about it as I once was, and that's a shame. I'm thinking about moving it on my "Maybe" shelf, since I may one day find the interest to read it again. Verdict: Moved to the maybe shelf
  • I remember seeing Chasing Harry Winston in a bookshop years ago, and I absolutely adored the cover. It was actually part of a 4-book boxed set, all of which had pretty shoes on the cover. I still love the cover, obviously, and I am curious about it. The blurb sounds very interesting. Verdict: It stays
  • Many Bloody Returns was one of those anthologies I've always wanted to read. Sadly, I can't say the same now. I might think otherwise after some time has passed, but for now I don't see myself reading it anytime soon. Verdict: It goes
  • Another series that is all on my TBR shelf. I added Firefighters of Station Five before Chicago Fire was made, back when I was getting a little bit tired of seeing only military men in contemporary fiction, ignoring other uniforms. I am probably going to read this series, so for now it stays on the shelf, but we'll see if when I get towards the end of this cleanup I'll still feel the same. Verdict: It stays

  • I'm a big believer of "the book is always better than the movie" philosophy, but in this case, I saw the movie first. I can't really tell you why I took that decision, but I did. Let me tell you, I pretty much enjoyed the movie, although I felt as though Stephanie was portrayed as a pretty not-so-smart character. I am curious about the book, so One for the Money stays on the list. Verdict: It stays
  • I'm sorry to say I have no memory of First Lady. While the story does sound like my kind of romance, and it kind of reminds me of the movie Overboard without the amnesia part, I'm not sure I'm going to get to it any time soon. Verdict: Moved in the maybe shelf
  • Cry Wolf is a book I've been dying to read, but for some reason I've always pushed it further back on my TBR list. I'm hoping I'll be able to get to it pretty soon. Verdict: It stays
  • Much like First Lady, I'm pretty sure Gotcha! is right up my alley. Unfortunately, there's something about the general story that doesn't really appeal to me at the moment. Verdict: Moved to the maybe shelf
  • I've been meaning to read a Nora Roberts book for years, even before I became a book blogger, but the mostly great reviews and the many 4 and 5 stars have scared me off. I figure Blue Smoke is a good way to dip my toes into the Nora Roberts universe, but I'm not exactly sure. If you have any Nora Roberts suggestions, please share with me. Verdict: Moved to the maybe shelf

  • Back when I was on a military romance spree, I stumbled across the Seal Team 12 series by Marliss Melton, and I wanted to read it. While I still find it an intriguing story, I can't say I'm as excited about it as I once was. Forget Me Not sounds like a really good story, unfortunately I don't see myself reading it in the near future. Verdict: Moved to the maybe shelf
  • In like with the previous book, Defender ended up on my TBR list when I was on a military romance binge. I don't feel the same interest as before however, and the blurb didn't really catch my attention. Verdict: It goes
  • Bella Andre has been another one of those authors I've been meaning to read, but my high expectations have kept me from doing it. I want to truly dive into this author's work, and Wild Heat is a book that sounds very interesting. Verdict: It stays
  • His Darkest Hunger is a perfect example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Because while I was prepared to eliminate this book from my TBR, reading the blurb reminded me exactly why I wanted to read this book in the first place. Verdict: It stays
  • Today's last book is The Executor. It sounds like such an intriguing book, but the reviews aren't all that great, which doesn't help with my already weakening interest. Verdict: It goes

So today I made progress, if I do say so myself. Out of 20 books, I eliminated 5 books from the TBR list and moved other 5 to the "maybe" shelf. I decided to add the option of moving shelves for the books I'm still on the fence about, just because I don't want to discover years from now that I want to read a certain book and kick myself for not doing it sooner. Now, you'd think that this would bring my TBR count to 3115, since I eliminated 10 out of the 3125 I was left with last week. HOWEVER! I was a pretty busy reader-bee this weekend, and got a little bit click happy, and now I am basically where I was last week, which is with 3125 book on my TBR list.

Now, I am confused about one thing, and I need your advice. Do you add entire series to the same TBR shelf, or do you have a separate shelf for the books from 2 to whatever the series lasts? I'm thinking that maybe if I add a separate shelf (title still undecided) maybe this will make things a bit clearer in the long run. What do you guys think?

  1. I've not even heard of any of these books before! About Nora Roberts - I don't actually remember the first of her books I read but I did buy the entire Bride Quartet series, and while I haven't completed it (I think one of them got misplaced in the move and I'm still looking for it), I do remember loving it, and it's fun and full of female friendships.

Hmm, never actually considered having a separate shelf for the rest of the series that I want to read... Smart idea!
