Obsessed With Covers #6: The Ward, Even in Darkness, Through the Zombie Glass

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. Call me shallow but you have to admit that a pretty, shiny cover will catch your eye faster than a dull, boring one. Two, simple rules that I'll follow:

• 1, 2 or 3 (no more than 3, though) covers per week;
• books should be new-ish; no more than 2 years old.

Oh, before I share the covers that made me drool or want to stare at them for hours and hours, I have to say something. This is a semi-original idea. Why semi? Because almost every book blogger has something similar. The only thing I came up with was the title. If by any chance there's another blogger with a similar feature with the same title, I assure you I'm not stealing your idea. I'm just THAT bad with titles. Believe me, I'd love to be smarter and have a witty name for this feature, but I don't. So, no copyright infringement/theft/steal or anything of the sort was desired.

This cover reminds me of those 3D street paintings. The person (or people) who made this cover is a genius (or are). It's so beautiful and creepy and terrifying. I keep seeing the seemingly calm waters reflected in the title and I think "Boy, this has to be an awesome read". I added it to my TBR just because I'm curious to see if the book is as scary as the cover.

The Ward - Jordana Frankel

I think it's pretty impossible not to pick up this book if you're in a book shop/library and you're just browsing the shelves. The dancer made out of flames and smoke is so beautiful. And the cover fits the title perfectly, in my opinion. Sort of like her soul is so bright, you can see it everywhere and at any time. 

Even in Darkness - Cyndi Tefft

I adore this cover! I like that it's in the same creepy, scary note as the cover for the first book in the series. I love the chess pattern on the floor, I love the broken mirror behind her and how each shard shows a different side of her. Yes, they might look the same, but I have a feeling that each shard tells a different story. And I love the blue dress and the rabbit and the hat. I love it all.

Oh, I so adore this cover! The sky, the clouds, the flying couple, the colors of the clouds, everything. I can even imagine that if I had superpowers and was able to go inside the cover, the air would smell like rain (yes, I love rain :D) 

Let The Sky Fall - Shannon Messenger 

This is another cover that I stared at for entire minutes, without getting tired. I love it. I love the frosted tree lashes, I love the birds flying over the eye and at the same time looking as if they left the said lashes, I love the icicle-like tear...Anyway, I believe it's an amazing cover. Makes me wonder about the book. I have it on my TBR pile, so don't yell at me for not reading it! I will make time *sheepish*

This is cover caught my eye because it was so simple. It's not full of details, there's no super crazy fonts used. It's easy to look at it for minutes and minutes. It's also a little creepy. The fact that the bloody ring is in the middle, surrounded by the foggy forest and the full moon makes me like this cover even more. And I am very curious what the book is about. 

Renhala - Amy Joy Lutchen

This cover is gorgeous! I love the elephants, I love the lights, I love the starry night sky. And I love that the cover model is shown from the back. It sort of shows what the title is saying. I am definitely interested on reading the book so I have it on my never-ending TBR mountain.

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.






I can't tell you how much I adore this cover. It's just gorgeous! Her hair is amazing and the way her dress blends with the background is beautiful and, at the same time, a little creepy, because it makes you think she only has a head, with no body. It's just amazing.

I loved the previous cover, I love this one too. Yes, it's for the pretty dress. The thing I like though is that it's a simple dress. Oh sure, it's puffy or whatever, but the colors are tame, or so I see them. I'm used to pretty dresses in flashy colors on the covers and these are really, really tame.







A Darkness Strange and Lovely - Susan Dennard

This is a very, very creepy cover. The colors are amazing, but scary. The clouds make me think not only of an impending storm, but of something dangerous and mysterious going on.  And the girl (with no hands, or I don't see them) dressed in leaves that are blown away by the wind...that is the most amazing thing on this cover. And it also sort of contradicts the title, because the cover doesn't make me think of something quiet. Not even a little bit.

This series has such pretty covers. The dress is absolutely gorgeous and I like that there are many, many mirrors behind her. Makes the entire cover look mysterious.


The Elite - Kiera Cass

I love her outfit. I have a thing for corsets. And I'd love to have hair like that, that is wavy without looking like I had a meeting with an electrical wire and I lost.

Oh and for some reason, she kind of reminds me of a young Annie Lennox. I don't know why, but the cover model looks like her, don't you think?

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

 This looks like a painting. There's this artist that does paintings like this (can't remember his name, no matter how much I try), but this cover reminded me of some of his art. And I love the purple sky and the icy blue snow. Have I ever told you how much I love snow?



Christmas on Mimosa Lane - Anna DeStefano

 This is a situation in which I hope I never find myself: trapped under a mountain of snow. Then again, if this comes with heat, all-you-can-eat buffet, study-free days and my huge mountain of TBR I wouldn't complain at all...



Trapped - Michael Northrop

I love this cover. It's so pretty with all the branches and holly. And I love the far, far away landscape. And the house. And the lovers kissing under said holly. Though I kind of wish for a snowball fight *grin*
