Blurb (from Goodreads):
In a bonus Montgomery Ink novella, it seems that falling for your best friend isn’t as easy as fiction says and friends of the Montgomerys might finally find their happy ever after.
Wedding planner Arianna King had everything planned out down to the last detail until her father's ultimatum changed everything. Now she’s alone, trying to open her own business, and seemingly failing at every corner. Just when things start to look even bleaker, she’ll find out just how much she can rely on her best friend—and herself.
Being in love with your best friend isn’t always easy as Harper Rosso knows. He’s been by her side since the beginning, but now that she finally has time to breath, he might just be able to show her what he could be for her. Only he’ll have to make sure he’s ready to take that chance and perhaps lose her forever.
Sparks fly between the two of them once they finally take their relationship to the next level. Only the burning temptation than fills them might not be enough in the face of what they left behind and what threatens their future.

I'm slowly falling more and more in love with this series, and I'll soon have to go back and read all of the books in it.
Even though I'm a newbie in this world, I was pretty sure that this story isn't like any of the others, or at least the ones that I read. Not only because neither of the main characters are Montgomerys by blood, but also because of the entire feel of this book. It felt like a behind-the-scenes story, which I liked.
I liked Arianna. I've never given much thought to wedding planning as a career, because I never truly understood what it actually means to plan such an important event for someone else, so I really enjoyed learning more about it through Ari's voice. I also loved how in love with her job she was. I'll be honest, I love reading about people who genuinely love their jobs, who adore what they do for a living, even if sometimes they do stuff they don't enjoy all that much. Another thing I liked about her is the fact that she was dedicated to her job enough to not let personal relationships get in the way of things. With her father and with a woman she never thought she'd work with, Ari didn't allow what she felt cloud her judgement or let herself do a less-than-perfect job, which shows how truly professional she is, and I respect her for that.
Harper is the kind of hero I don't usually like 100%. He's a sexy, funny, charming guy, and he's a really good friend, but sometimes he's too good of a friend, if that makes sense. I know he always tried to help Ari, and he didn't mean it to get out of hand, but sometimes that is something that bothers me just a tiny little bit. All that aside, I did like the fact that he gave Ari the courage and self-confidence she needed in a truly low point in her life, and I like that he knew just what she needed in order to get her butt in gear.
The plot was great, and I read this book pretty easily. Because this was a short story, I feel like a few details weren't fully explored, or explained, and I'm just hoping they'll be at least mentioned in future books, but apart from that, I did enjoy this story. And, as I said, I plan on bingeing this series pretty soon.

About SHADE’S LADY:
New York Times bestselling author Joanna Wylde returns to the world of the Reapers Motorcycle Club…
Looking back, none of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t dropped my phone in the toilet. I mean, I could’ve walked away from him if I’d had it with me.
Or maybe not.
Maybe it was all over the first time he saw me, and he would’ve found another way. Probably—if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that Shade always gets what he wants, and apparently he wanted me.
Right from the first.

*Disclaimer: I received an eARC of this book from InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my rating or the content of my review in any way.Guys, Joanna Wylde does it again. She just blew my mind with this novella, showing that she writes kick-ass stories no matter their length.
I loved Mandy. She was a woman that knew what she wanted, knew how to have fun, but she also had a softer side that she kept hidden. I liked that about her. I always wondered how the girlfriend of an MC's national president should be like, and I'm glad Mandy was that girl. I loved her relationship with her sister and with her nieces. I also liked how she was willing to do anything for them.
Shade was fantastic. He wasn't as cold or as cruel as I initially thought someone with his title in the MC world should be. I admit that not knowing a lot about this world, I had some preconceived ideas, so discovering Shade isn't like what I thought was a nice surprise. I also liked his honor. I like that he didn't abuse the power he had over Mandy in certain situations that could become really critical and dangerous for her. Even better, he tried to protect her. There's a scene that I adored where he gives her a better tool to let out her anger towards someone and he doesn't consider her weaker or like she shouldn't be doing what she was doing in that moment. I'm sure that there's a reason why he's national president at such a young age, and I imagine that I wouldn't want to be on his bad side, and we king of see a tiny glimpse of that dangerous side of him, but I really liked him.
As I said before, this book was fantastic, and I didn't even realize it was a novella until I got to the end too fast. I usually have a hard time with novellas, because I can tell they're shorter, but it takes a really good author to not make me feel that way, and Wylde is one of those authors. The plot was great, and the ending was not what I expected. I loved it, don't get me wrong, but it was unexpected in a way. I absolutely adored this story and I hope we see more of Shade and Mandy in future books.

“You’re full of sh*t!” I said, waving my hand grandly. My drink sloshed and I licked the side of the cup, because this whiskey was way too good to waste even a single drop. “Wonder Woman is better than Batman. She’s got real power, not just fancy toys. Although she has those, too, which means anything Batman can do, she can do better.”“Nope,” Shade said, shaking his head seriously. “She’s hot, I’ll give her that, but he’d take her in a fair fight.”
I held up a hand for him to wait as I polished off my booze.
“No way. She’s a goddess of war and she’s one of the best hand-to-hand fighters in history. She’s got an invisible jet, for God’s sake. How can you compete with that? All he has is a bunch of money and the stupid Batmobile.”
“Hand over the cup,” Shade said, narrowing his eyes.
“Why?” I asked, narrowing mine right back. I was good and drunk now, and I wasn’t sure I was ready to be done for the night.
“Demonstration,” he replied. “C’mon. Or are you chicken?”
“What are we, kindergartners?”
“You’re the one insisting Wonder Woman can take Batman,” he replied. “Chicken.”
Then he leaned toward me, raising a single finger to poke me in the center of my chest. Not copping a feel or anything remotely sexual, either. This was pure taunt. I handed him the cup and he tossed it on the floor, nearly falling off the bed in the process. I smirked—guess I wasn’t the only drunk one. Then he started listing to the side and I lunged for him, grabbing his shirt to keep him from going over.
Shade caught my arm, using the momentum to pull me onto his body with sudden force. My hands hit his chest and I raised my head to stare at him, stunned.
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked. Shade wrapped his arms around my waist, holding me tight to his body.
“Demonstrating.”

Blurb (from Goodreads):
Growing up as an honorary Taggart, Eric Patterson found the family he’d always wanted. Almost. He couldn’t ever manage to see the clan’s youngest and only daughter, stubborn spitfire Shelby, quite like a little sister. Suddenly, his long-suppressed feelings are determined to come to light.*Disclaimer: I received an eARC of this book from PromoStar Services in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my rating or the content of my review in any way.
Too bad Shelby’s cursed. Her double whammy psychic powers to read emotions and locate anyone anywhere have always made relationships impossible—and now they’ve begun to endanger her life. If she uses her echolocation skills again, it just might kill her.
But when a malevolent supernatural force invades the valley, threatening the Taggarts and their neighbors, the Brands, Eric and Shelby must contend with both their blossoming feelings and the increasing danger. Does Shelby dare risk using her powers one more time, sacrificing her own life to save Eric?
The more books that come out in this world, the better the story gets.
The first thing I noticed and really, really loved, is how the plot really does thicken. This means that, although some details become more and more clear, as well as certain questions get answered, the more things become more complex. I love that certain details in this book make me questions events from the previous series, that I honestly didn't really think that much about before, not because they aren't important, but because I never made the connection in my head before now. I thought it was a coincidence, but I see now that it wasn't. I'm talking about a little detail regarding Ruth, one of the main characters from the previous series.
I really enjoyed reading about Shelby and Eric. I love seeing how Shelby's powers grow over the course of the book, and I'm really curious to see if they can get even bigger. She seems ready to use her powers to save others, at times completely ignoring her own health, but I also liked the fact that she realized that some of her power wasn't such a blessing as some people might think. She struggles a bit with the fact that she can sense what other people think, especially about her, but I also like the fact that ultimately she's willing to do whatever it takes for her loved ones, including making herself vulnerable.
Eric was a better hero than I previously thought. I'll be honest and say I didn't like him very much in the previous book, but that's most likely because I didn't understand his reasoning for acting the way he did, especially towards the end. As this story went on though, I found that I liked the fact that he accepts that Shelby sometimes needs to do her own thing, even against his better judgment. I also liked the fact that he got her to open up a lot, especially when it comes to her powers, even if that scared her a lot, and also made her powers grow to some really scary proportions. Speaking of, I wonder if we'll ever find out why they grew the way they did.
I would also like to do a happy dance, because I was somewhat right, and there is more to the Ruth storyline than was previously revealed. I like that things are getting clearer and are being explored. I'm also curious to see where everything is going, if Jerahmeel will come back or if there's another thing, even worse than him, that will make an appearance in future books.

Read a Sneak Peek of LOVE, HONOR, AND INK:
Harper Rosso cursed and fumbled with the hammer before putting it back in his tool belt so he could answer his phone. He’d thought he’d turned the damn thing on vibrate but had apparently forgotten. The shrill ring had pierced his brain, making his already annoying headache even worse.
Taking a deep breath, he climbed off the ladder, pulled out his phone, and answered, not bothering to look at the display.
He should have taken the time to read the damn screen.
“What?” he barked, tired as hell and ready to get home. The first day of this damn job had taken longer than he’d expected, and he was going to end up behind on his timeline if he didn’t put more work in. When the Montgomerys had hired him for this project—restoring the old Mason Home—he’d done his research and had come up with a decent deadline. That didn’t mean shit when it came to mold, broken moldings, and shitty hardwood flooring. He didn’t have to fix it all today, or even by himself, but he had to at least make a list for all of the others to get started. He was one of the new guys on the Montgomery Inc. team, and if this project went well, the company would hire him on full-time. Everything he had was riding on this. He didn’t want to own his own business, but he wanted to work for those who knew what they were doing.
“Is that how you answer your phone? No wonder you don’t get laid.”
Harper closed his eyes and prayed for patience. Then he remembered he really didn’t give a flying fuck about his brother Justin’s feelings.
“What do you want, Justin? You’ve got two seconds, and then I’m hanging up.”
He could practically see the bastard’s smirk as he spoke. God, he knew it was probably a sin to hate his brother as much as he did, but honestly, the little maggot was lucky Harper hadn’t ended him when they were kids.
Harper inhaled through his nose then exhaled through his mouth, trying to calm himself. Only Justin could send him to violence so quickly.
“You’re such an ungrateful brat,” Justin growled.
“You’re running out of time,” Harper replied.
Justin let out a huff. “Fine, I just wanted to call you so you could congratulate me on my engagement.”
That brought Harper up short. Engagement? Since when was Justin seeing someone? Why Justin thought Harper would care about this development beyond feeling horror for the poor woman was beyond him.
“Good for you. I’m hanging up now.” Any longer, and Harper might have to take his hammer to his temple and end it all for good.
“Don’t you want to know who I’m marrying?”
While normally Harper would have just hung up, there was something in Justin’s tone that forced him to pause. His brother was a little too cocky about something.
And that worried him.
“Fine. Who?”
“Your lovely neighbor, Arianna King.”
Harper blinked, his mind going momentarily blank, his throat dry. “Excuse me?” He couldn’t have heard right. There was no way Ari would fall for Justin. His best friend and neighbor couldn’t even stand to be in the same room with her father’s lackey, his brother, let alone vow to spend the rest of her life with him.
This had to be a joke.
Or maybe a bad dream.

Five years ago, Nick Markovic found himself consumed by his quest for vengeance. The one time he managed to find peace was in the arms of Hayley Dalton. Being with her was like bathing in sunlight, and he ached to feel that again, but he couldn’t. He gave his oath to Hayley’s cousin Desiree, his partner at McKay-Taggart and Knight, that he’d never let his darkness infect Hayley’s innocent world.
A spark she can’t put out
It was years before that Hayley offered everything she had to Nick. After that one amazing night, all she wanted was to be his forever. Unfortunately, Nick’s reaction was to walk away from her and never look back. The warm and caring man she’d discovered was gone, and after Des’s death, he’d only grown colder. But when Hayley finds herself in mortal danger, she’s forced to seek protection from the man who broke her heart.
A flame that threatens to consume them both
Haunted by the women he failed, Nick can’t allow himself to grow close to Hayley again. Running to stay ahead of the powerful forces that endanger their lives, they travel from the lush Garden in London to the glittering lights of Rio. As the threat against her becomes clearer, he realizes that to keep her safe he must confront the demons from his past, even if it costs him a future with the woman he loves.
Yet another great addition to the world of Masters & Mercenaries by Lexi Blake. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
While reading this book, I had the impression that there were two big themes in this book, one in which we explore Nick and Hayley's love story, and one where we explore Nick's professional relationships. Nick's romantic relationship with Hayley was put in opposition with the one he had with Desiree, and the differences are pretty big not to notice. I would have wanted to see a little bit of that story from Desiree's POV, how she lived the story between Nick and her, but maybe that's explored in previous books. All I can say is that seeing how miserable Nick felt in regards to his and Des's relationship once he started admitting what he truly felt makes it impossible not to like his and Hayley's story. It's also difficult to like Des, which I feel isn't all that fair towards her, seeing how she's dead and an't really explain herself. I can understand how her actions hurt Nick, but at the same time, Nick seems to have given up on life once he got his revenge. So I feel like it's a bit unfair to say that Des was fully to blame for the destructive, toxic relationship they had.
At the same time, it's interesting to see how Nick relates to his field partners. The two people he trusted, Des and Owen, hurt him in one way or another, and now he feels like he needs to do it all alone. What's interesting to me about that is seeing how he gets exposed to the mindset of team work by the Taggarts and their friends, and how he reacts to being part of a team. I liked how he reacted to the fact that being an employee of Damon, and, by extension, of Ian, meant that he had to work with the team, that he had to trust someone to have his back, or to simply give him a solution to his problems, which is something he didn't have before, not even with Des.
Hayley was not the type of heroine I necessarily like or understand 100%, especially when thinking about how she wants to only see the good in people, especially in Nick. Nick treated her quite poorly, both in the past and now. And yet she's still set on being there for him, trust him, love him even. Thinking about her past, how she grew up, how her parents' actions made her feel like she doesn't deserve affection, makes her attitude understandable, but I still would have liked to see her love herself just a little bit more, especially given how she found it in herself to escape the bad guys following her and putting her life at risk. There are moments where that Hayley comes to light, but I would have liked to see that more often. That said, she fits with Nick, probably because he gives her something to focus on and to want to fight for, while she gives Nick some peace of mind.
The plot is pretty fast paced, and I read this book quite fast. I liked seeing glimpses into the lives of the original couples, like Ian and Charlie. Those two are always funny and sexy together. I also liked this very mysterious Ezra guy. I'm really interested to see what his story is, and if maybe he'll get his happy ending. I also love the little taste we get at the end of what happens next in this series. I'm very curious to see how a certain agent will react to what happened at the end. All in all, a good book, one that once again reminded me why I still love this series.

Nick went back to staring at the report. “Hayley’s not mine. She was Desiree’s cousin. Now she’s my client.”
Who had been tired the night before and that was why she’d said the things she’d said. This morning she’d seemed much more sensible. After she’d had some sleep and a shower and had straightened herself up, she’d been quiet and seemingly reflective. She was very likely embarrassed by what had been said the night before.
I would get safety from murderers and I would get orgasms. I’m sorry, Nicky, you’re going to tell me how that’s a bad deal for me.
He was going to make sure she understood that his protection wasn’t based on whether or not she slept with him.
Because he wasn’t sleeping with her. He couldn’t hurt her that way again.
“So she was your old lover’s cousin,” Owen mused. “The lover you weren’t exclusive with and who wouldn’t marry you. The pretty girl who looks at you like you’re the sun in the sky is her cousin.”
“She looks at me like she would look at man who can save her.”
“I can save her.” Owen’s eyes lit up, his brows waggling. “Maybe she’ll look at me like that.”
Anger flared through his system. “Don’t you dare. I told you I would take care of her.”
His arms crossed over his big chest and Nick knew he’d been had. “Well, that answers the question with more honesty. You can pretend, but you like the girl. And if you honestly don’t then you need to know that the boys got a good look at her last night. If she’s going to be hanging about, she should be ready for some serious male attention.”
“What are you talking about?”
“The lads talked it over last night and decided there’s no dibs on this one. They all saw her at pretty much the same time. They looked over that dead body and saw her walking in the hall and that was when the fighting started. We all sat down and decided no dibs on her. She’ll get to pick. You should know that Sasha and Jax have decided if she picks either of them, they’re willing to share. I don’t play that way. That’s something I do know about meself. No need for you to be telling me that tale. If there’s going to be some sharing in the bedroom, it’s going to be the traditional kind between a man and a woman and her stacked best friend. That’s what I say.”
“You tell those boys to stay away from her or they will be dealing with me. They will not like to be dealing with me. I will put up with many things from them. They can poke all the corpses they like. They can punch each other. I do not care. They touch Hayley and I will be caring.”
“Wow, now you do sound Russian. A scary Russian. Still, I think if you don’t want the girl, shouldn’t she be allowed to choose? Think about it. It could be fun.”
“Are we talking about the lost boys and their battle for the new chick?” Kayla strode in, her hair in a high ponytail. It bounced as she walked, a testament to her seemingly ever-sunny personality. “I had babysitting duty last night and they kept talking about her even after lights out. Bad boys. I had a plan though. I think we make them compete in a beauty pageant. Hayley gets to judge.”
“I’m judging a beauty pageant?” Hayley followed behind Kay, and both women were followed by Charlotte Taggart and Penelope Knight. It looked like Hayley was rapidly being accepted by the women on his team.
That was not necessarily a good thing. The women on his team could create chaos like no others.
“That sounds like fun,” Charlotte said with a smile. “I think we should require Speedos for the bathing suit competition. No boring board shorts. If Hayley’s picking a lover, she needs to see some booty.”
Hayley stopped, her cheeks going the sweetest color of pink. “Wait. What?”
Penelope put a hand on her arm. “They’re teasing you, dear. Don’t worry about it. The lads will be very polite. Though you should expect some suitors while you’re here. Especially if you come down to the dungeon.”
Now he was the one flushing. “Excuse me?”
Hayley shook her head as she joined him at the table. “It’s nothing. I was just talking to the girls. Did you get the report? Penny said the Dallas office had found something.”
He was all too aware that they weren’t alone. Damon and Ian walked in with Brody Carter and Walter Bennett. The four men settled into chairs as the women joined them. Nick held out a chair for Hayley. He would have to remember that he couldn’t leave her alone for a minute or someone would be whispering in her ear, giving her ideas she shouldn’t have.
Like visiting The Garden on a play night.
It wasn’t happening.
