Obsessed with covers #19: The Immortal Heights, Ink and Bone & The Isle of the Lost

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. Call me shallow but you have to admit that a pretty, shiny cover will catch your eye faster than a dull, boring one. Two, simple rules that I'll follow:

  • 1, 2 or 3 (no more than 3, though) covers per week;
  • books should be new-ish; no more than 2 years old.
Oh, before I share the covers that made me drool or want to stare at them for hours and hours, I have to say something. This is a semi-original idea. Why semi? Because almost every book blogger has something similar. The only thing I came up with was the title. If by any chance there's another blogger with a similar feature with the same title, I assure you I'm not stealing your idea. I'm just THAT bad with titles. Believe me, I'd love to be smarter and have a witty name for this feature, but I don't. So, no copyright infringement/theft/steal or anything of the sort was desired. All I can say is sorry :P

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17410991-the-immortal-heights
This is such a gorgeous cover! It has dragons on it! And they spit out (or breath, however you want to see it!) lightning. Aside from that, the colors used are fantastic. I do hope that in real life the colors are a little bit stronger. I totally need this series on my shelf, because all books have gorgeous covers.

The Immortal Heights - Sherry Thomas

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20643052-ink-and-bone
This is so pretty! First of all, the font used for the title is so, so awesome. It makes me think of those really old books you see in museums. And then there's a glimpse of old books sitting on a shelf, which is so great. And Goodreads says this is a book about books, so that is even more awesome. However, what I like most are the two lions in the back, that kind of make the entire upper part of the cover look like a giant coat of arms. Or like a coat of arms is hidden behind the ink stain. Also, the quote at the end of the cover is great, because knowledge really is power :)

Ink and Bone - Rachel Caine

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22639095-isle-of-the-lost
This is such a cute cover! I love the font used for the title. And I love how simple the cover is. I'd like to see it in real life, but I really hope that the thorns or the title is embossed.

The Isle of the Lost - Melissa De La Cruz

I've seen so many gorgeous covers this week, I don't even know where to start or which ones to pick!

The watercolor background effect is gorgeous. And I love the night vs day, dark vs sunny contrast. Not only that, but there's a sort of irony in the cover, too. There's the dark, rainy half, that somehow gives me a sense of life, crowds, of stuff happening, while the sunny, shiny part gives me the impression of solitude and of still life. I absolutely adore this cover and the artist really did a great job.

Where to start? The skull covered in flowers is pretty awesome, but I also love the flower "frame" too (I'm going to assume they're roses, though I have no clue *hangs head in shame*). I recently developed a think for dark purple, so that is also another reason why I adore this cover. And the eye sockets are "staring" straight at you, sort of daring you to pick the book up. Interesting choice of cover art, given the title.

Wicked Luck - Shannon L. Maynard

This is such a simple, yet pretty cover. The thing that caught my attention is that the girl is hiding her face. And the way she's sitting makes me think that she's either really sad or she's trying to hide something. I wonder what. Then there's the awesome swirly design around the title. It's just so pretty to look at.

Endless - Amanda Grey

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

There are so many amazing things about this cover. There's the cloudy sky, the buildings that are separated by the feathers, the feathers that are so full of detail, and the gorgeous font. I just love this cover so much, that I have to see what the book is about.

Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo

This cover is hauntingly beautiful. I love that the background is so colorful and so... happy, I'd say, while the two characters are just silhouettes. It makes me wonder if this book ends on a happy note or not.

Listen, Slowly - Thanhha Lai

Okay, I have a confession. I have a thing for crows. I love them. No, really. They are so gorgeous. And black. And...yeah, you get the point *clears throat* Anyway. This cover is quite simple. Scary, but simple. And the crow...man, I really want to know if there's a crow in the story. Sometimes simple covers are so beautiful, like this one.

The Eterna Files - Leanna Renee Hieber

Obsessed With Covers #16: China Dolls, City of Eternal Night & Made You Up

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. Call me shallow but you have to admit that a pretty, shiny cover will catch your eye faster than a dull, boring one. Two, simple rules that I'll follow:

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

This cover reminds me so much of those old photos I see from the 20's and I love it for that. I adore the fact that the background is sort of foggy and you can't really see that bridge. I wonder why. You know me, I'm all about figuring out if the cover fits the book. The model fits the title, if you ask me. Not only is her makeup really beautiful, her clothes remind me of the clothes of a china doll. So I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with that.

China Dolls - Lisa See

I think you guys know by now how obsessed I am with cartoonish covers, creepy covers and beautiful dresses. So if a cover has all those three elements together, you get awesomeness and an excited puppy called Ruby *points at self* Let's start with the dress, shall we? Her corset is made of leaves. I love that! And the gold and green colors blend together so well and it makes her stand out against the dark, creepy background. Why creepy? Well, you have the full moon (love!) and the tons of beads that hang from the tree and they remind me of Mardi Gras (would love to see it one day) and of spider webs. Not to mention those black thingies below her elbow which look like bats to me, but I may be wrong. And the entire city is dark violet. And her eyes are scary, because I barely see her pupils. Okay, I'll shut up now.

City of Eternal Night - Kristen Painter

This cover is very, very different from the other two. First, it reminds me of a Rorschach test. And after reading the blurb, I applaud the cover artist for making it like this, because it fits perfectly with the idea of this book. It isn't a happy cover, it kinda hints to a very serious, sad, incredibly heartbreaking story, yet it still gives me hope that there's going to be a happy ending in there somewhere.

Made You Up - Francesca Zappia

Obsessed With Covers #15: Wicked Heroine, The Jewel, Gilded Ashes

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. Call me shallow but you have to admit that a pretty, shiny cover will catch your eye faster than a dull, boring one. Two, simple rules that I'll follow:

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

This is a very pretty cover. I love the multitude of colors of the clouds. That is one powerful storm waiting to start. I love the hand holding the orb, which I admit looks strangely similar to an eye and that makes the entire thing creepy. Which I love. And then there are the calm waters and the lone boat that makes my heart stutter because there's a storm coming and it makes me think no one on that boat might survive. Then there's the weird shadow in front of the boat. I wonder if it's a tree, a cloud or a sea creature. All in all, this cover is great!

Wicked Heroine - Jasmine Giacomo

Pretty dress? Check. Creepy factor added by the fact that the girl is reflected in the many sides of a "jewel"? Check. It's pretty easy to explain why I love this cover, really. I'm hoping the cover stays the same for the paperback edition of the book.

The Jewel - Amy Ewing

There's a stairs theme in this series and I like that. I love the trees surrounding the stairs. I like that the stairs don't look so scary as in Cruel Beauty though.

Gilded Ashes - Rosamund Hodge

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

This is suuuuch a creepy cover! I love it!! The blood, the slash on her cheek that gives the illusion that she's half grinning, her light-colored eyes are staring directly at you, it seems like she's looking at your soul. Or eyeing her next meal. Then there's the blood, the wound on her forehead and her creepy color...It all makes this cover amazing.

Zomburbia - Adam Gallardo

This is such a simple cover, which is actually why I like it. Of course, looking at the different editions, I found another one that I loved, that I had to include in this post as well...Now I'm torn, because if I ever decide to read this series, I'll have to seriously ponder on which edition to buy. There's the first version, which is more appropriate for the title, with the icy background and the icy-blue dragon that looks like he's very, very cold, poor thing. Then there's the second version, where the dragon looks like a pendant and it's rising over the sea or it's a portal to a different world / dimension.... So yeah, I've no idea what should I choose... The important part is that both covers are amazing and beautiful and maybe I'll buy both versions, just for the prettiness of them both.

Frozen: Heart of Dread by Melissa De La Cruz & Michael Johnston

I love the duality of this cover. The yin-yang showing both summer/spring and winter landscapes and the ashes on the ground that look almost like waves. I'm also curious about the title and how the cover fits with it... I might add this book on my TBR based solely on the cover.

Snow Like Ashes - Sara Raasch

Obsessed With Covers #13: They All Fall Down, The Edge of Falling & The Museum of Extraordinary Things

Y'all know how much I love a pretty cover. I think about...40% of the books that end up on my shelves (be they physical or digital) do so because of the covers. First of all, who watched the Oscars last night? I didn't get to see the whole thing unfortunately, because it was very, very late in Italy (the whole thing started at 2 am in my neck of the woods and I fell asleep *pout*). I did get to see about half of it and can I just say that Jared Leto's speech and Pink's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow where my favorite moments of the entire thing.

Anyway, here are some of the covers that I've seen recently that I believe are amazing:

This is an incredibly creepy cover. Between the dead/unconscious women with their faces shoved in red plates that look more like pools of blood and the creepy mummy that looks more like a living plant, this is one scary cover art. Oh, and the way the women hold hands, like they did some magic ritual before makes the thing even scarier.

They All Fall Down - Roxanne St. Claire

I'm deathly afraid of heights. The only thing that tops my fear of heights is my fear of falling from heights (therefore I will never do skydiving in my life) and of spiders. This cover has two of my fears in it and, while it takes me a few seconds to remind myself that it's a photograph and it's not real, I have to admit that it is gorgeous. And the red shoes. I love those shoes. They remind me of Dorothy's shoes for some reason. I have this book on my TBR list, mainly because I really want to know if the girl will fall or not, or if she's going home. Or maybe the falling part is just a metaphor? Anyway, great cover.

The Edge of Falling - Rebecca Serle

This isn't a creepy cover, I know, but it is stunning. There's just something about it that catches my eye every time I look at it. Maybe it's the lights or the stars... I really don't know, but I look at it and it seems like such a...peaceful scene. I haven't read the book, so I don't know if the story is peaceful or not, but the cover looks like that to me.

The Museum of Extraordinary Things - Alice Hoffman

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

I adore this cover so, so much. It's such a great cover, a mixture of creepy and sexy, with a little bit of danger in it. I love the snake, but I also love the two skulls behind her. Makes me wonder who those people were and what did they do to get decapitated or why are they in the woman's garden. Also, did she kill them?

Paradise Damned by S.M. Reine

This cover is so, so pretty. I love her hair (I'd love to have that hair color). Her choker/necklace looks amazing and I love those bead lines, they look like tears. And she looks like a fighter.

The Falconer by Elizabeth May

Wow, it's been a while since I last did this feature. The reason is that I never quite managed to find some great, amazing covers to share with you *blush*

This is a very pretty cover. I love those icy flowers and the starry sky and how the stars envelop the flowers. I also love the blurb and I would so love to read this book. I've read a few reviews and there are mixed opinions about this book, but I will give it a try.

The Age Of Ice - J.M. Sidorova

This cover is just stunning. I love butterflies, so any cover that has at least one will most definitely catch my eye. It's just beautiful and it makes me thing of autumn. The pretty autumn, you know, with red, yellow leaves and warm sun and a little bit of wind. And I love the butterfly that left the jar and after reading the blurb, I believe it's fit for this book.

A World Away - Nancy Grossman

This series has had amazing covers, The dresses worn by the model are just stunning. I want dresses like that! I love the mirrors as well, and the design on top of the title. It's just a beautiful cover, one that I can't not notice.

The One - Kiera Cass

I love her flowing dress and the stars make the entire cover look magical.

These Broken Stars (Starbound #1) by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

It's been a while since I've seen a truly beautiful cartoonish cover. I like the contrasts in this cover. How the white swan (and, maybe, the good girl) is on the same side as the haunted-looking castle, while the black swan is on the side with the pretty castle, bathed in sunlight. Makes me really want to read that book.

The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil #1) by Soman Chainani

Man, I can't even put into words how much I love this cover! It's just amazing! The dress that has a hint of glitter (I refuse to say it sparkles!) and that transforms into rows of big, fluffy clouds? Just gorgeous!

Evertrue by Brodi Ashton

A crystal ball that reveals a seemingly normal girl in a somewhat normal world that is filled with magical objects/things? Yup, this cover is great!

Elusion by Claudia Gabel & Cheryl Klam

This cover is beautiful and scary at the same time. I love the rose (kind of symbolic) and I love the girl running down the stairs. Circular stairs are cool too. But the angle of that image freaks me out. I'm scared of falling and the angle of the image makes me believe it would be a loooong way down. And painful. But it's still a pretty cover :D

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

Wow I love the silhouettes of the trees behind the girl, I love the smoke wings, I love her almost smile, like she knows something no one does. Like she's daring everyone to get near her or to try and find out her secrets. Can I have some wings like that?

Spirit by Shauna Granger

I loved the first cover of this series, I love this one as well. The cover artist did a great job! I love how there are white-blue clouds and how there's dust around the two characters.

Let The Storms Break by Shannon Messenger

I don't think this cover needs any reasons to be loved. Just look at those colors! And his tattoo is just fabulous! Yup, me likey!

Unhinged by A. G. Howard

This cover is quite creepy, if you ask me. I love the sea, but sea storms freak me out a little (unless it's a sunny day, I'm at the beach and I can swim under the waves...yes, I'm a tad deranged *grins*). I love the fact that, like with all other covers in this series, you can't see the model's face. And I love the sunset, giving that storm an even creepier look. Sort of like telling you it can always get much worse than you think.

Ruins by Dan Wells

These are just a few of the covers I saw and adored last week. Believe me when I tell you I had to restrain myself from adding more to today's post. There's always next week, right?

What are your favorite covers you saw lately?

So, here are the prettiest covers I've seen this week.

I love the colors in this cover. And I love that there's no one else in the cover besides the girl. Though it looks deserted, I'm curious about the "illusions". And the sky is gorgeous.

Glamorous Illusions by Lisa T. Bergren

Wow! I love the sapphire blue and the fact that besides the black and white there's no other color. And she has blue lipstick! How cool is that!! Now want a blue lipstick *le sigh*

Black and Blue by Gena Showalter

I love how we can't see her face and I love the shapes and shadows behind her. I also love the foggy rays of sun and the red rose she's holding behind her. I wonder who she is. I need to read this book.

Lady of Ashes by Christine Trent
