Loki wants to end the world
Only immortal Vikings can stop him...if she can cure them

Scott Brisbane has been in love with immortal Viking healer Irja Vainio for years, but as a human, let his fear hold him back. Now that Scott has finally earned his place with the tribe whose king his sister married, there's nothing standing in the way of his true feelings. But Irja knows that getting close to someone is a death sentence...

When the Viking warriors start falling into comas one by one, Irja is desperate to stop the illness from spreading. Without a cure, she'll have to rely on magic she hasn't used for centuries--magic that taught her to never let anyone get close. When the evil god Loki offers her the cure, it comes with a steep price that could cost Irja and Scott everything...
Ever since I read the first book in this series I was interested in finding out what was going to happen with Scott, the queen's brother. Finally, the time has come for his story to be told, and it is glorious. His heroine, Irja the healer, was such a doll, and their story was awesome. Let me tell you all about it.

Scott has been through a lot. From watching his parents be killed by evil mercenaries, to being taken into a secret lab and be the subject of some really nasty testing and experiments, then he managed to escape the lab in order to be kidnapped yet again and tested on. Now he's free, after being healed and monitored by Irja, but some really strange things are happening to him. He appears to be having premonitions, and while normally that would be awesome, he can't control them, he has no idea what triggers them, he doesn't have them all the time. It's a nightmare. On top of that, he is attracted to Irja, which he sees as a bad thing, since he is now fighting alongside her brother, a scary looking ancient warrior. Basically the guy could use a break. I honestly adored Scott. I loved his sister, so I expected to love him as well, but I was taken by surprise by how much I adored him. He's selfless, he won't hesitate to put himself in danger, even if he isn't immortal, like his fellow warriors. He was willing to do anything in order to help, even if that meant putting himself in danger.

Irja on her side has to struggle with a lot. She is trying to hide her true nature from the warriors around them, because she is afraid they'd cast her out for having magic. She is afraid of acting on her feelings towards Scott, because he's the queen's brother. And she is still haunted by her mother's evil words towards her. Irja has had a very difficult life, and reading about how awful her mom was broke my heart. When Irja finally finds her courage to be open about her magic I cheered. It's a beautiful moment, and I was very happy that she decided to open up about it.

Scott and Irja together are such cuties. They have a lot to overcome, and they both misinterpret why the other one is keeping their distance. So they need to get better at communicating their feelings. But when they do get along, they complete each other.

The plot moves along very well, and some stuff happens that I did not anticipate. I'm very curious to see what will happen next, if there's going to be another book in this series. I actually hope for more, to be honest.

The narrator, Lisa Flanagan, did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. She managed to go from one character to the next easily, considering they each have different accents, and I absolutely loved listening to her narrate. I'm very curious to try out other books narrated by her.

All in all, a fantastic story and I hope to read more from this series. In the meantime I'm going to try out other books from Asa Maria Bradley
